Let the duck poop harden in the sun and pave some roads in the Cully neighborhood with it.

Duck poop paving is the perfect "green" for a bicycle pathway.
What the city missed from the git go was not calling the pond a "bioswale"!

Once again it's plain to see that Portland is run by nincompoops. Why didn't they plan to compost and sell the stuff -- or at least use it on city greenery? Nincompoops!

Turning a landfill with methane problems into a park for neighbors is problematic enough without adding the nasty stuff from the Laurelhurst Pond.
This should not be allowed. I hope the people at Cully object. This is a case of NIABY - Not In Anyone's Back Yard! Taking crap from one neighborhood and moving it to another?
There is something seriously wrong when our city can offer $10 million to buy property from the Oregonian, but will not cough up some money for the people of the Cully neighborhood for a decent piece of property for their neighborhood park.
I just saw the link and the park's literature. There are glitzy photos of landfill parks and while the parks may look good, how healthy are they? This location doesn't sound healthy.

Taking crap from one neighborhood and moving it to another?
We're not just talking about just any two neighborhoods here, after all - there are some distinct differences.
Could you ever in your wildest dreams imagine "crap" going in the opposite direction, from Cully to Laurelhurst?

If the City actually took care of the poop like they were supposed to in the first park levy (1989) -$100K to get rid of the stench of Laruelhurst's man-made park pond.
This artificial un-freshwater pond had fish dumped into it, and ducks unable to leave because their main diet is bread (Twinkies). They had unlearned their ability to forage.
But Charles Jordan, freshly back from Texas and probably wanting to run for Mayor, (after he left as a City Commissioner late 80's) said in a media conference --"God said do not kill anything", even if many eat fish and I leaned of many poverty food distributors that gladly wanting the food.
The City that spends.

John Rettig:Could you ever in your wildest dreams imagine "crap" going in the opposite direction, from Cully to Laurelhurst?
No.
Thanks for showing the stats.
How many other shortcuts, abuses or inequities are heaped upon neighborhoods such as Cully?
Am afraid that the lack of financial accountability and fairness by our Mayor and Commissioners will become more apparent as the rubber hits the road.

Mary, I don't get your point. Jordan was a decent commish in the days of Neil. Back when Fireman Randy's bureau had zero women employees and zero desire for women employees, I sat waiting in Comissioner Jordan's lobby (while a friend had a meeting with him). One of his aides tried to recruit me to be among the first women recruits in the Fire Bureau.... Urban League had set-up a training program and all to assist. I wasn't interested but I was pleased.
The city could do what farmers do and get noise devices to scare the geese off. And once the pond is cleaned up, dogs should be allowed to patrol.

LucsAdvo: . .Jordan was a decent commish in the days of Neil. . .
He seemed to have changed. There were real problems with parks when Jordan was the head of Parks. Of course that was under Katz and Hales and let's not forget Sam was there with them. I wouldn't expect too much from Adams as far as respect for Parks or respect for the citizens either.

clinamen: my disdain for Parks Bureau started when they shoved the Grabriel Park rec center down the throats of this area of SW PDX. Despite the fact that most of us did not want that building (and with Mittleman a stone's throw away and with Tualatin Valley charging not a lot for non-residents from this zip code to use their facilities (I used to swim in a TV pool before I quit dealing with chlorine and I have never been in the GP pool) none of us really needed that building. We liked the green space as it was. Since then the city tossed in a skate park to encourage fighting and vandalism on park grounds. I don't think Jordan was the impetus for all that crap though I do believe Hales was deep into it.

LucsAdvo,
Hales was deep into it. (Commissioner of Parks)
Yes they shoved Gabriel Park project down the throats and there were other serious park abuses under Katz and Hales and with Sam implementing the agenda.
