Outgoing agency chief "Crocodile" Hansen admits that the bus driver was way in the wrong when she mowed down five pedestrians with a green light in a crosswalk, and he releases an overall safety report from an outside consultant brought in after that horrifying incident.

Next stop permanent vacation (stress disability)?
TriMet's Unfunded Actuarial Accrued Liability (UAAL) for fringe benefits now totals $907.7 million.
To put that in comparison, TM’s total cost of payroll last year was only $136.5 million.
Long term debt: As of June 30, 2009, TM had $327,675 million in revenue bonds outstanding and $36,380 in GO bonds outstanding, for a total of $364,055 million. Of that, $96,928 was due within one year and has presumably been paid. After various other adjustments, the auditors state that the “net” long-term debt as of 6/30/09 was $273,088,000.
Keep in mind: paying off the $96,928,000 during the current FY was presumably one large reason why TM had to cut service in November and will cut service again in July. This is a legacy of previous light-rail construction programs.
Hansen is leaving TriMet in a catastrophic fiscal mess and will be patted on the back and slipped a huge check.

RESPONSE TO FRED HANSEN'S LAYING THE BLAME ON SANDI DAY-BRUCE PEEK
First of all, it is TRIMET POLICY to accommodate courtesy stops for any passenger that asks after dark, she followed TRIMET POLICY COMPLETELY. Was there any way for her to look into the future to determine that this courtesy stop would not be safe?
Secondly, TRIMET POLICY is to scan all directions in and out during a turn. If she did that that it would mean that she would have had to take her eyes off the direction of travel. At that moment the pedestrians walked into the path of the oncoming bus but her eyes were away from the direction of the travel as prescribed by Trimet policy.
Thirdly, we have the issue of blind spots, they are not visual barriers, they are blind spots. Trying to diffuse the reality using language is an attempt by the company to shift blame from the management to the operator.
Finally, Fred is attempting to sway the accident review committee. This is nothing but a huge PR campaign to make sure the accident review committee gives the judgment that Fred wants.
They have purposely delayed taking the accident to the review committee in order to give themselves time to make up the committees mind for them so they can get the judgment that they want, which is full blame on the operator and none on the company.
