Drive on down to the most inaccessible moonscape in Portland to work ... those ... buns ... off.

They say how much mmebership is? It doesn't look like 10% of what 24-hour has. But, heck, if its tax-subsidized, they may pay me to join and use it.

$100 OFF the initiation fee? Good lord...
Posted by Jon | January 15, 2010 7:46 AM
C'mon it's not THAT inaccessible. Just jump on the streetcar downtown and you can be there in 30 minutes.

Looks like they left out the "or" between "your fitness" and "your life".
Posted by none | January 15, 2010 8:01 AM
I think they meant Your Money or Your Life.

Is there any bureaucrat or current or former elected official capable of admitting they were wrong about SoWa, The Tram, biotech and Urban Renewal to fund it?
Or are they all simply to reptilian?
How about the same question for WES?
Vera, you left quite a wake of FAIL in your tenure of office holding.
Do you have anything to say at all?
Posted by Ben | January 15, 2010 8:17 AM
So...If you keel over while exercising, they just drag you to the tram *rimshot*, load you on, and send you up the line?
Just don't get in the way of all the tourists.

I'm 30, so I'm counting myself among the youngsters. You just need to include a period, and possibly the word epic. I think everything else is adjustable according to the message trying to be conveyed. This one seems to be
FAIL -> Epic.

Y'know...That center picture behind the grinning heads?
Doesn't that look like they are worshipping the huge silver soapbubble?
Do you think that was intended?
Posted by godfry | January 15, 2010 9:05 AM
I have a question for the younger readers of this blog. When you write "fail," does it have to be all caps, or can it be upper and lower case?
Sometimes getting creative with the fonts and letters adds a nice little zing to it. Maybe spell out "Pill Hill" vertically in bold capital font then spell "PHAIL" horizontally. Might make it more of an inside joke and less funny to the non-resident, but I'd LOL.

Citywide mailers, huh?
They must be desperate. Of course, if they had 10,000 biotech jobs...right there in SoWhat...it would be a slam dunk. Right?
*rimshot*
Take the Tram! *rimshot*

It's the initiation ritual I'd be worried about. The guy with the severely plucked eyebrows on the left is disturbing.

FAIL needs to be in all caps.

I've been a past member at this OHSU Health Club. They have been hurting since they opened up. In the past year they had to decrease their space by 50% to help defray their losses, even though taxpayers have subsidized the building by millions. The $5 Million of taxpayer money (TIF) that was applied to generate biotech jobs in this one building alone never materialized.
Just recently in the proposed 5 year SoWhat budget under "Industry Cluster" with subtitles of "Wetlab" and "Bio-Tech Build-Out, PDC is allocating $1.5 Million for the 9-10 years, and $700,000 for the next two years. Bio-Tech lives in SoWhat with no results-no jobs after 10 years of funding. Just the facts, folks. You can editorialize now.

Not as disturbing an ad as this one was. Journal of an Urban Pioneer.

Shouldn't OHSU's mission be not to subsidize fitness centers for the rich and famous who can afford to live in such wealthy areas (especially given the huge number of existing fitness clubs in the near area), but to extend such services to other areas of Oregon that are UNDERSERVED?
If this is the future of socialized medicine, God save us all. (Especially since my wife has had a heck of a time just trying to see an endocrinologist at OHSU and has had to jump through more hoops...shouldn't OHSU doctors be the EASIEST to have access to?)
Posted by Erik H. | January 15, 2010 12:54 PM
To be factual, above OHSU Budget post should have read "9/10" budget year not "9-10"; and "$700,000 for the next two years" should have been "$700,000 for each of the next two years". Big difference, another $1.4 Million. Sorry for the double post, trouble getting it posted.
