Recall 2.0 sets itself up for epic fail

The group that wants to try again to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams is making things hard for itself. Not only is the enigmatic Jasun "Kiss of Death" Wurster, who ran the doomed first effort, continuing to be prominently involved, but now they've also got a Kevin Mannix pal doing the strategerizing. Throw in a Victoria Taft live remote and daily all-caps e-mail tirades from Jack Peek, and you're pretty much dressed for failure in lefty Portland. What next -- Bill Sizemore and Loren Parks?

Comments (24)

Respectfully Jack I have to disagree with you on this and take issue with you publicly flogging me.

Over the past 10 months, of living off of savings none-the-less, I have met a lot of Portlanders from every political persuasion working together to recall Sam Adams. As a volunteer coordinator I have the opportunity to contribute to our city as a productive citizen and be a part of the solution to riding our city of an ineffective mayor who makes some really bad decision.

Sadly you are playing into Sam's hands with this post.

This recall campaign is not managed by me and I have a very small (yet vital) role as a volunteer coordinator. For those who do not want 3 more years of Adams lies please do consider donating and volunteering.

Jasun Wurster

At this point it seems very likely that Adams will serve out his term. At least the recall people will keep his actions in the public's mind.

So, other than painting a fresh veneer on it (Avel Gordley) this is same old, same old?!?

Quit while you're ahead. Spend the next 3 years finding a candidate. Prepping the candidate. Fundraising for the candidate. Building the necessary machine to defeat the mayor.

Sam, at this point, is far less of an embarrassment than this continued (and ridiculous) effort.

Please don't trot out another candidate like Dozono again.

There is no room for complacency here. The spending, long-term shady contracts, and sky-high debts that Adams can enter into over the next three years may just render the city banko. Don't let this clown handle the city's credit card for one more day, let alone three years.

yeah, right ... whatever ... good luck with that ...

It isn't even that I'm so much in favor of Sam, it is ALL that I stay way away from rightwing wacko nutjobs who frenzy themselves in a froth in the streets, such as in this case.

The FBI better start infiltrating these incipient groups -- there was another troop of traitor anti-Americans in WashDC today -- inciting to riot and recruiting homicidal maniacs. C'mon G-men and G-women, get your good government on ... or stop cashing those paychecks we taxpayers are signing.

Does anyone remember 10-15 years ago when Victoria Taft wasn't a right-wing wacko? At some point she must have decided that wingnuttery was where the big bucks were.

The homegrown at work again, Tenskwatawa?

Hey, can anyone help me out with the recallrandyleonard website, while we're on the subject of homegrown?

And in spite of all the baggage he currently carries, mark my words, Jasun will one day be treated with gratitude and respect. If he doesn't succumb first to post traumatic stress disorder.

My writing style is not the issue, the words directed to this issue are not, my main issue has already killed a human being, and the issue WILL KILL AGAIN.

The FACT...none of you wish to listen to it, or just shelve it for two years is a problem.

I'm aware of the all caps deal...and I HAVE never seen a volume key on the key board so far, and it's kind of funny though..I see people raising their voice, with all caps once in awhile, it to me is no more then bringing up your volume in a conversation with anyone...ITS NEVER SCREAMING.

Bogdanski WWEEK....OREGON LIVE...all refuse comment by me...I HIT to close to home, and like Bogdanski, what I know about Jack, and his failure to stick with his own neighborhood in the time when all were needed to stop another issue of public safety is well known.

And his shots at the recall...the "bogger" talks out of both sides of his mouth, Mayor Creepy comments, but hasn't the guts as Jasun has to personally confront SAM...or the stupid "fireman" as Jasun or myself has.

Hey....that is this frigging city...YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BE QUIET, AND CIVIL WHILE THEY RUN OVER YOU, but cannot take the heat back

Mark my words ..........that will for some will put you on the unemployment lines, and for some like SAM..a freeway corner with a sign. and Randy...who would hire him.

COWARDS....Just COWARDS.

Jack Peek

As a volunteer coordinator I have the opportunity to contribute to our city as a productive citizen and be a part of the solution to riding our city of an ineffective mayor who makes some really bad decision.

A productive citizen would not be pushing for the reckless spending of millions of dollars on a recall election (especially repeating an effort that Portlanders already denied) in the midst of an economic crisis.

Get a job.

Andrew, I disagree. I would love to spend my tax money on the recall. Adams and crew waste more money than that on useless planning exercises every week.

Well lets see if the above post sticks, and this one, what has it been Jack, nearly a year, you have dis-allowed my posts as well as others.

All it took was a phone call,my message that if you have a blog like this, and you present things,I can agree with or disagree with, for the time being, it's still free speech here in what is left of this country.

You...into tax law(good at it I hear, from a past student who was one time really close to old Vera)and that person was quite a source of "news" shall we say.

So, let's just say based on that...this town makes Chi-Town look spotless.

My 10 yr. "RANT"...you of all people should understand why...my kid's were little when all the PSRB stuff started, and there is no argument it is an issue of public safety..NONE!

Your "fetish" of taking shots at me, Jasun,Victoria...WHY?

Is it some thing that makes you feel tough or something?

I suggested one time you take that good legal mind of yours and run for office..to a small degree, I FEEL, the same...but these cheap, child like playground shots like today..I RETRACT THAT ONE.

On SAM,I cannot understand why you waver about it...and don't get your resources I. E your blog..and maximize the effort to stop the bleeding here.

Someday..you need to explain that one.

Lastly "Tenskwatawa" What a coward.

Not once have I failed to put my name behind my views...and this go should hope that someone who really does have PTSD (I DON'T) will get enough of the "right winger" crap, and find out who he is...for one thing...he takes up space, and his rants...always longer then mine are well known.

If these posts stick..I look forward to more debate.

My writing is not the best, but my heart is in it, and no one who knows me will tell you different.

Whew. And now, sign your petition, right?

"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce."

Whew. And now, sign your petition, right?

Hey..only if you put effort behind it, the shot today..We can do without.

Please don't trot out another candidate like Dozono again.

Yunno, I liked Dozono a lot, and hated to see people take shots at him. Still don't like it. Sho Dozono was a good man, brought down by a lying creep and his slander. At least he has a smidgen of business acumen.

Of course the fact that he was in the same business as me helped shape my opinion...but still, he was a good candidate.

And look what we wound up with. A lying sociopath, a pederast who (allegedly) gets away with causing accidents in his full size pickup while drunk out of his mind.

I love that part. He wants to do everything in his power to make life hard for people who own full size white pickup trucks, like me, while driving a full size white pickup truck around his own hypocritical self.

Drunk, no less. Allegedly. When I told this sordid tale of child molestation and drunken driving and compulsive lying to my Obama-crazed old man, who was one of the people involved in the grassroots effort to bring out the truth about Nixon way back when, his response was:

"Wha ? ...and he's still mayor ? You're kidding."

Must mean we both hate gay people and love Republicans, right ? Because that is what motivates people who are disgusted with this mayor, right ?

What simplistic knee-jerk Identitypolitik drivel.

All it took was a phone call,my message that if you have a blog like this, and you present things,I can agree with or disagree with, for the time being, it's still free speech here in what is left of this country.

Ahh, trotting out the "free speech" straw man on a privately-run blog and forum. I love when people do this.

Let me quote the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States for you, which establishes freedom of speech in case you forgot, and you can point out for me where it reserves any rights for you to shoot off your mouth on other people's private computer systems. I'll even bold the relevant bits:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Pretty sure that the Willy Week, OregonLive, and Jack are not official bodies of Congress. Therefore, they can censor anything they want off their private web sites. Don't like it? Don't submit libelous whiny screed such as what's posted above. You should be happy that they only block you from posting, rather than banning you outright like some other forums around the web.

Hint: it's not that they are "cowards" for not letting your posts stand - it's that you aren't bringing anything to the conversation except a lowered signal-to-noise ratio.

(these comments are mine, and mine alone. Don't blame anyone else for my words - it's my opinion.)

WOW..another "less then brave poster"

Of course it's a private blog, and yes he can do anything, but if free speech is to exist...then the shots that were fired..deserve one back.

If I didn't know better,,I'd say you are a city elected well known for hiding behind a fake name, if not, you're someone really close to the core of the problem.

"Don't submit libelous whiny screed"

Really just defending my name and my position on issues I favor.

As Jack should remind you, if not I WILL(all caps)stick to the thread..THE RECALL.

And again, you take a shot at me, PUT YOUR NAME ON IT.

"

Oh, Fred, save it for when it counts.

Jack Peek, you can always start your own blog. Let me assure you that most private folks who run internet bulletin boards and blogs do in fact have standards for posting and will ban users and remove posts that don't adhere to those standards. Free speech doesn't apply when the government is not involved. Quit whining and create your own space if you don't like this one.

Thanks, I will remember your kind words.

Randal O'Toole has a solution to Sam's driving problem:

http://ti.org/antiplanner/?p=1989

Gridlock also makes a new argument that has only previously been hinted at by the Antiplanner. New passenger rail construction rarely makes economic sense, but new highway construction is politically difficult. Instead of simply rehashing the roads vs. rail debate, the book proposes a third option: to provide congestion relief and greater mobility by increasing the capacities of our existing road networks.

WOW...a bit from the book, what an excellent post.

Now if those fine people, riding all those bikes, come to reality, that the auto in some form is here to stay, maybe we all can "just get along!"

Forget the recall, so he couldn't keep his **** in his pants, that makes him a policitican, just like all the others.

Leave the guy alone already.
