Well, we have to import our Hoodies....
But we have unemployment numbers that are nearing 20%....
And Deschutes County has sold zero houses in the $1M range so far this year, and only half a dozen over $500K. You used to sell a hundred a month.
And suicides are the order of the day, from drowning yourself in Dillon Falls (doctor who owned The Shire), to hanging yourself in the RV showrooom floor...

I am so old I was born there ... before it got Bend'ed ... when it was Straightarrow ....
When Rajneeshees, and now SoCal-ees roll in and park, it doesn't bother me a bit because I know a secret about the place: psst! there's only so much water in the desert. Bone-dry is Nature's way of keeping the population down ... -hill, where water flows.

I left Bend in the early 70's to return to college. I could see no way to make a living there without being a servant to the MPA's at Sunriver. Years later when working for the State Eco Devo guys I toured Bend looking for firms interested in export sales. Basically found no one. Most companies seemed only interested in a no growth capital retention strategy. The only successful business I have seen in Bend has been real estate and tourism. Kind of like Costa Rica without water...
