Cute sign, but barely legible.
When will picketers figure out that you keep the cutesy stuff for what you shout in rhythm, and have short concise statements on the signs!
This is the one thing Unions usually do right.

I can read it:
Posted by Jack Bog | January 21, 2009 2:37 PM
I wonder if the guy has an extra sign... I'd join him down there...
Posted by Aaron | January 21, 2009 2:42 PM
yeah, we can read it with the benefit of a digital photo, on a website, which you can get real close to the screen if necessary.
I'm talking about the average person driving by (or on the Streetcar, in the case of downtown). Just four words, in 5-inch letters:
Sam needs to GO.
Posted by MachineShedFred | January 21, 2009 2:52 PM
How about just LIAR?

In other news, the Willy Week is reporting that the scoutmaster is a no-show for his one-on-one with Fireman Randy:
http://wweek.com/wwire/?p=19894
Posted by MachineShedFred | January 21, 2009 2:54 PM
And sorry for the rapid fire posting, but I couldn't help but act upon your last suggestion, Jack:
See? Much easier to read!
Posted by MachineShedFred | January 21, 2009 3:00 PM
At least I got a nickel back last time I returned a Sam Adams.
(I'd like to apologize for any pain the previous statement may have caused).
Posted by Pat Malach | January 21, 2009 3:09 PM
It appears that Scoutmaster Sam has been a no-show at City Hall today. I am speculating that Sammyboy is writing his resignation statement.
Posted by Fonzi | January 21, 2009 3:52 PM
So. Assuming that Sam does resign, and I think that's a REMOTE possibility at best at this point, who would become mayor? Would we have to have a special election? Anyone want to point us at a link to the process? This is all early of course, since I personally would be very surprised if Sam steps down, although I'm not surprised at all that he didn't show at City Hall today. Can you imagine?
Posted by Markalope | January 21, 2009 3:57 PM
"I am speculating that Sammyboy is writing his resignation statement."
....dream on.
In what will be an unabashed display of arrogance, Scoutmaster Sam will hide under his desk until the noise dies down, which it will, and will be with us until the end of his term(s). He won't go unless drug forcibly from his downtown digs, kicking and screaming all the way. He doesn't care about Portland or the image this portrays, he's EARNED this office due to all his time in public service. Gives him a license to do almost anything.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm afraid it won't happen.

There's always another variation on the Portland transportation classic:
Go Bye Sam
Posted by PdxMark | January 21, 2009 4:34 PM
Thanks, PdxMark...I was wondering how long it would take to get there.
I suspect he dumped it now, knowing that there is a six month timeline before a recall effort can be mounted. (I've been told this and do not know it for certain.)
Six months. That's plenty of time for the majority of the electorate in Portland forget all about this little peccadillo on Sam the Damn Sham Tram's part.
It's the prevalence of poor short term memories around these parts. We all know the source of that.

It appears that Scoutmaster Sam has been a no-show at City Hall today.
Meeting with Steve Houze, no doubt.
Posted by Jack Bog | January 21, 2009 7:10 PM
RE: Recall
The effort can take place right now. It just won't be effective until 6 months from now.
No need to wait at all.
Posted by Mike (I forgot which one) | January 21, 2009 7:52 PM
I think the news at 10:00 on channel 12 will tell the tale!
Good Bye Sam
Posted by John W | January 21, 2009 8:01 PM
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm pissed about the whole Amy Ruiz thing.
"It never crossed my mind [Adams] might have hired me to keep me quiet."
And Sam the Sham thinks she's smart.
I'd say that was the dumbest bimbette comment I've heard from a city employee since Vic Rhodes came up with the phoney $12.5 million price tag to build the silly tram *rimshot*.
Posted by godfry | January 21, 2009 8:43 PM
While we're at it here, why has Vic Rhodes not been indicted, arrested and tried for fraud?
Posted by godfry | January 21, 2009 8:54 PM
How come some asshat from Lake Oswego gets to come up to City Hall and hold a sign trying to tell our mayor what to do?
Posted by portlandia | January 22, 2009 1:12 AM
"It never crossed my mind [Adams] might have hired me to keep me quiet."
She is my favorite character in this farce. If I were her though I wouldn't get too settled. Don't think she is going to leave that job with any more experience then she brought to it.
Posted by tom | January 22, 2009 6:33 AM
I think the sign should read "Statistic!"
'Cause Sam's worse than a liar, and he's worse than a damn liar . . .
Posted by Scott | January 22, 2009 7:49 AM
godfry - because of the First Amendment to the Constitution. You should consider re-familiarizing yourself with it.
Posted by RL | January 22, 2009 8:32 AM
"How come some asshat from Lake Oswego gets to come up to City Hall and hold a sign trying to tell our mayor what to do? "
Because everyone's entitled to their opinion, that's why. If you don't like it, feel free to hie yourself downtown and voice a contrary one.
Posted by AL | January 22, 2009 9:34 AM
Portlandia, how come most of Adams mayor election funds came from out of state and city?
I'd be happy if we could legislate that only those living in an election jurisdiction could contribute, but it can't happen with the 1st Amendment, thank God.
Posted by lw | January 22, 2009 10:29 AM
I will restate my point.
As a Portland resident and voter, I choose to ignore any asshat from Lake Oswego or anywhere else outside of the Portland city limits who takes it upon himself or herself to tell my mayor what to do, or to tell me how I should feel about it. Especially if they travel from Lake Oswego and stand in front of Portland City Hall, pretending to be Portlanders.
Your mileage may vary.
Posted by portlandia | January 22, 2009 4:49 PM
I choose to ignore any asshat from Lake Oswego ...
It's not nice to talk about Steve Duin that way.
Posted by Garage Wine | January 22, 2009 7:34 PM
Portlandia, does that mean that a person who works, owns a business, pays any kind of Portland taxes, but lives in a suburb is prohibited from commenting under the 2nd Amendment on something that affects their life? I wonder how the ACLU would deal with your comments.
Posted by lw | January 23, 2009 10:28 AM
I'm with Portlandia on this. Identified only as a LakeOzian, no mention of Portland business.. to publicly make an ass of oneself is legal, but in poor taste. Screwing an 18 year old when you are as old as his dad is legal too,but in equally bad taste.
So... Mr Lake Oz.. stand on a cold city sidewalk and exercise your right of free speech. Stand out there till Adams resigns. And then we can easily say that at least it was bad decision for Adams, while with you its just ordinary stupidity.
