I'm trying to watch the end of the Blazer game, and the signal's breaking up badly. Is this my ancient TV, something going on with Comcast, or a KGW problem? It's crunch time in the fourth quarter -- what a time for the feed to go kerblooey.

I just turned it off. It was getting too annoying. Even the commercials were breaking up.
By the way, Blazers won 97-93. Thus far, they've lost three on the road decisively and won three squeakers at home. They could easily be 1-5 (two of those wins involved incredible luck). Even with Oden out, this team should be better than this. What is wrong with this team?
Eh -- they're o.k. Nate McMillan was great with a bunch of rookies, but I don't see him ever taking a team deep into the playoffs. The talent seems greatly under-utilized.
I switched from cable to regular broadcast channel 8 and it was there too so it wasn't a cable thing.
Then they came back and the one announcer apologized but Mike Rice said the game looked fine to him from there. What a loser thing to say to the fans.
I mute him when he talks. Zero charisma and a know-it-all attitude. He couldn't carry Shonely's headphones.
I like Mike Rice because his boozy off-the-cuff-isms make for colorful commentary... rare these days. I don't mind that he makes me scratch my head sometimes, it beats the cliched crap that makes up 90% of sports broadcasting.
There are several announcers that get to me including Tim McCarver during the World Series. I have tried to watch while listening to the radio but they are usually out of sync.
I got the NBA pass one year and caught the local announcers around the league.
I liked Tommy Heinsohn for the Celtics and a bunch of the other teams announcers.
The main thing is when you serve the public and something goes wrong, you should feel or at least appear to feel contrite, rather than say in effect, "It didn't affect my enjoyment of the game here court-side one bit."
Tonight was annoying and Joe Becker led the KGW sports report with an apology to the fans even though it was not KGW's fault. That's how it's done.
On a positive note, Nicolas Batum was a pleasant surprise tonight. 3-point range and great blocks.
There's been some kind of crash on the server on which this blog resides, and about a week's worth of stuff is not appearing at the moment. As soon as I can get hold of my web host, we'll see what's what."
Technical difficulties can happen to anyone, Jack.
In a comment yesterday to an unrelated post about Christmas music already being played on Portland radio station K103, I wrote that the only time I listen to FM radio these days is when I tune to 95.5 when I am in the car during a Blazers game.
Last night I watched the lackluster first half of the game on KGW, then ran out for some late errands that needed doing. I caught the second half, including the finish, on 95.5 in the car and was completely unaware of any technical difficulties that TV viewers were encountering.
I parked my car in the driveway and listened to the last 60 seconds of the game. By the time I got back to my living room, Brandon Roy was being interviewed on the tube and I heard Mike Rice mention technical difficulties.
I received an unexpected check in the mail yesterday.
When the flickering started, I was convinced that my own 16-year-old television (who's been less than stellar lately) had decided it was finally time to give up the ghost.
The news that it was their feed - and not my television - was cause for much rejoicing.
Of course, my ten year old (following in the snarky footsteps of her older teenage brother) insisted she'd been telling me all along that it wasn't our TV!
Maybe we should count our blessings...I remember when home games were always blacked out locally (but not the rest of the state), even when the place was sold out. That used to tork me off.
I lived in Klamath Falls until 1991, and we had a dedicated "Blazer Channel" down there, and all games were shown on it. Then when I moved up here to go to school, they blacked out the home games and tickets were still a bit out of my range. It was so surprised that they did that. It made it seem so elitist at the time.
I saw this plane land on the Willamette between the Marquam and Ross Island bridges yesterday about 4PM and then taxi north towards the fish restaurant. I googled his tail number and am assuming this is Paul's mode of transport! Vulcan is one of his companies.
@Gil, winning close games is a pretty damn important attribute in a team. I see it as a very encouraging sign that they seem to have a knack for it. A lot of things have to come together, but I'm not ready to write this team off -- not even close. Brandon Roy remains an important ingredient -- he knows how to involve the whole team, but is also willing and able to step up and make the big plays when the situation demands it.
With new weapons available, this season holds more promise than last year. Last year, it took them till December to start firing on all cylanders; I don't see why we can't give a .500 team another few weeks, at least?

It's maddening... not your TV, and all my other channels are fine. Helluva job, KGW.

Probably not the station so much as "Blazer Broadcasting."

Nate is the problem. He still doesn't know how to use his weapons... and he's not going to be the coach to push the team over the hump.
Good coach, not a great coach. Problem is, there's not a wealth of great coaches out there.

It wasn't a Comcast or KGW problem. It was an issue with the feed in the Rose Garden. Stuff happens...

The NBA -- where stuff happens.
Posted by Jack Bog | November 8, 2008 11:13 PM
Noticed the same problem when trying to watch the beaver game from UCLA. Satellite issues are affecting FSNW and KGW apparently.
We had to turn on an AM radio to get the play by play. Might be an option for you folks.

Yes, and when they happen, customers are unhappy. Some of them remember for years.
