Now that the Supersonics pro basketball team has bought its way out of Seattle, it'll need a new name, since under the settlement its old one is staying in the Emerald City until Paul Allen moves the Blazers somehow a new team arrives up there. The Sonics' new home in Oklahoma City may suggest the new label. Or maybe their coach, P.J. Carlesimo, can inspire a new name. Certainly they wouldn't want to dwell on their recent performance level, which has been pitiful.
The Okie Chokies?

How about, "Blazer's Bitches", which I fully expect them to be for the next decade or so....
Okay, who has the over-under for time frame for Paul Allen to move the Blazers (or hold Portland hostage for concessions - you know Sam, Randy, and those other nitwits would bend over backwards to pay even more taxpayer money that they don't have).
Ironically, I had to clean some latte off my monitor after reading that one. In honor of the whole sordid process that led to this, I think the new name should honor the one person that doesn't get nearly enough blame: The Oklahoma City Stern Screw Jobs.
Why not just call them The Bennetteers or The Professional Basket Club LLC? That way, no matter where they follow the money, the focus is on what really appears to matter . . . owners and partners and not the public that may support a local team for many years only to see them leave.
Oklahoma City Cyclones. But than they will probably hold a debate on whether or not enough people know what a cyclone is... and as a result they will be named something terrible like the Oklahoma City Twisters! Than the owners will stumble upon the fact they can play "The Twist" by Chubby Checker during player introductions, and the franchise will fold before your eyes on opening night in 08.

It will probably be the "Sooners".
I'll bet they'll be just OK, having come out of the WASH.

How about the Oklahoma City SOS
You could think of them as the Seattle-Oklahoma Supersonics or the Same Old Ess.
Which they probably will be.

I thought about the Tim McVey angle, but decided not to "go there"...Glad you did though.
How about the Frequent Flyers?
The franchise formerly known as Supersonic.
And they just use a logo, instead of spelling it all out. Like Prince.

I kind of like the Oklahoma City Weasels in honor of Clay ("I'm a man possessed!") Bennett.
Or maybe the Oklahoma City Best Faith Efforts in honor of the (still pending?) litigation w/ Howard Schultz?
