Cascadian secession and walling off the "Pearl" district reminds me of the movement in Texas about 20 years ago.
They wanted to seced from the union and were raising money to build a wall on the state line.
After one year they had raised a considerable amount of money, with most of it coming from outside of Texas.
I needed to laugh this morning and also get some perspective on Texas-especially since I just got a call from a PO in Dallas who doesn't want to cut a pitiful old client of mine any slack.
And young people like this candidate give me hope for the future.
How funny. I like the wall-around-the-Pearl idea, and my alter ego knows of some Californians it wouldn't mind seeing taxed more. Legalizing marijuana does appeal to my libertarian leanings but the logic side of my brain (if I do have such a side) says its too idealistic. I wonder if this youngster becomes more conservative 10, 20, 30 or 40 years from now. Sounds like a case study.
My gosh, it is very similar to Sam the Tram's platform!! The photo is an earlier photo of Sam in his late puberty years, before he cut his hair to a more political acceptable format and he lost some of his puberty fat.
Sorry folks, I don't find Burris entertaining at all.
Walling off the Pearl like a Warsaw Ghetto and having death camps for hipsters complete with ovens are holocaust references that I find totally offensive and inappropriate.
The best thing to do with this whack job candidate is to ignore him. Totally.
I don't often agree politically with Dave, but I too found the ghetto wall and ovens reference very disturbing to the point of scary, and offensive. Obviously this kid has not read 20th century history or ignores what he has read. Socialization of private property doesn't work eg, Communist Russia; someone always comes out on top and ends up controling the wealth and power.
Perhaps that really IS his goal for being elected.
Sorry, Dave. I didn't catch the oven nuance as I thought it might be for feeding the homies with baked grub. There are similarities between his walling off & no cars proposals to PDX cityhall's thoughts about the Columbia River Crossing Project (CRCP). Sten and crew thinks CRCP is largely for Vancouver even though its part of a federal highway system serving commerce up and down the North American west. I think the non-PDX stake holders should try to bypass Portland and put a bridge west of Portland city proper linking back up to I-5 north of Vancouver downtown. Western Portland suburbs would get an economic boon from it. Probably get a private firm to finance it with tolls. This might take some wind out of PDX cityhall's NAZI like sails.

"Save Portland Now"? An intentional mockery of Jim Karlock? Or just more hipster irony?
