All the Trimet board members along with Hansen should ride all of the buses and trains on a regular basis. That includes Bernie the Sheriff, who if he had taken the time and interest might have seen some of these problems and looked for a solution before they became a public issue. Instead of being activist, they react after someone has been hurt.
Quite frankly every politician in the area should only use public transportation daily and that should be expected of their families as well. Need to get the kid to a soccer game? Well use Trimet!
Getting rid of Fareless Square would be a huge mistake for TriMet. I can't even begin to say how much that would piss off downtown workers (such as myself) who ride for short distances around downtown during the work day. Not to mention all the tourists/shoppers that spend big bucks in the downtown and Lloyd District.
TriMet drivers and brass blame scofflaws who hop on in Fareless Square without paying and ride to their final destinations outside the fareless zone. This is simply another problem that would be solved by having a regular and sustained fare inspection program.
What a wimp. I've ridden on eastside max dozens of times in the evening in the last year. I don't feel any less safe than driving on 84 or on a bus. People need to get a grip rather than trying to make headlines.
One would hope that committee members on the numerous committees for the proposed Milwaukie LR would seriously consider the negatives of LR in bringing crime and more to Clackamas Co. It is their responsibility to do such and not let a "spin report" from whatever agency dispel the evidence. With LR with open ridership causing crime, is it better than rapid bus service, and at less cost?
Yes, God help us, let us not have public transportation at all -- it's immoral and a hotbed of crime and violence. Everyone back to his or her own car, please. And lock the doors.
This is simply another problem that would be solved by having a regular and sustained fare inspection program.
Couldn't agree more. I have NEVER seen anyone asked to show evidence they paid their way onto MAX. It's gotten to the point where I'm pretty sure people I snickering at me when they seem me putting money into the ticket machines....

Are we forwarding copy of the Max Mess on to those cities that hope to follow in their success?

What I find troubling is TriMet and Metro have not altered their continued hype and promotion for more light rail.
They still make all of the exact same claims and are blind deaf and dumb about any of the real world outcomes we've witnessed for two decades.
And they have the full time staff and millions to perpetuate the propaganda indefinetly.
Milwaukie is being doused with a fresh round of balderdash as that latest light rail expansion approaches the final stages of inevitable.

Allan L., so you think rapid bus service (express) isn't public transportation? I thought we wanted to be diversified in our transportation options-plus, it sure is nice to have public transportation within 5-20 blocks to ones home versus a mile or more.

I have been riding MAX every day for over three years now to get to work downtown. I have seen inspectors about once a week on average, but I have only been asked for my ticket twice that I can remember. Seems they always find someone who hasnt paid before they get to me.
