Aren't there rules about impersonating a secret service agent?
Posted by Steve | June 16, 2007 5:02 PM
As far as I can see, the video does not corroborate the claims of either side. Just a lot of standing around and digging through backpacks.
Sounds like this lady was a pain in the butt ("I'm a Secret Squirrel; the rules do not apply to me!) and isn't used to the kind of treatment that she likely dishes out to others as a Secret Squirrel. Poor her! She's not "special" at the airport.

She clearly dumped the water out on purpose, then tried to turn back.
As far as flashing the badge, the report states that she flashed the badge and expressed her opinion that she should be exempt when she was initially stopped--which is before the video feed picks up.

Steve,
I looked for that bit about deliberately pouring out the water, and didn't see it. I did see her wiping up something. Can you tell us where on the video (what time stamp) the pouring takes place?
Posted by al | June 16, 2007 5:25 PM
Come on. It's 1:00 or so into the second video. That water didn't accidentally spill. She poured it out on the floor -- then shook the cup out! -- and turned around as if she were going to go in through the exit door.
The TSA did exactly what they were supposed to do, and this self-proclaimed VIP tried to flash her tin and get a special deal. Then had the nerve to complain about it! Good for them, bad for her.

At 1:00 she is partially blocked by the first officer but as they separate it can be clearly seen her extended left hand shake down then rotate up. At 2:20 She can be seen flipping her ID open to the second officer. At 3:55 shy may have done it to the supervisor (who is nice enough to pick up and hold the toddler (risking a fondling charge)). Why is a "former" SS agent "Buzzing" a uniformed officer at an airport? I can see why she is a "former" with that attitude and lack of composure, but I think they need to revoke the courtesy of letting her keep her shield.

You've got to give the TSA credit for posting the videos.
It seems like, though, if she was really a security threat, it would be poor procedure to let her stand around in a crowded area and then not do any kind of search or additional investigation.
If, on the other hand, the security people just felt like she was being obnoxious and domineering, well, that's not actually a crime or anything that should cause a person to be detained. In that case maybe they should have just let her drink the nursery water and become someone else's problem.

The taxpayer funded surveillance cams, including satellite perspectives, are multiplying. And we can never put the Cyclops Genie back in the bottle and erase it.
So embrace it. Enact ALL public funded imagery on the internet, so we can all watch ourselves. And watch ourselves watching ourselves. Only then can we know what offends and invades us, and needs changed if we choose.
A recent 'news' item, about Google's 'Street Scene,' included a stupid sentence that tells us to get smart. Google Zooms In Too Close for Some, By MIGUEL HELFT, June 1, 2007, saying:
“The issue that I have ultimately is ... zooming in on people’s lives,” Ms. Kalin-Casey said ... "If the government was doing this, people would be outraged.”
Ms. K-C, HELLO? ! "the gov't" IS DOING it. Know your enemy. Meet your enemy. It's us.

Open sesame, says me. Enough with the secret sneaky 'be very afraid!' crap, already. We are all adults here. There ain't no boogeyman in all the world which ain't us.
Rocket Carrying Spy Payload Has Problems, By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, June 16, 2007, CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. Thanks for pointing out on the video where the dumping occurred. The dirty deed was partially obscured by the female cop that was escorting her.
And FYI, Jack...some of us don't have reliable internet service, so the feed doesn't download well, resulting in stops and starts of the video that make details hard to pick out. So give me a break, here, will you?

Dumb... My god, we've only been doing this security crap for 6 years, is it hard to have some common sense...oh yeah... that's been systematically breed out of our society.
