That's friggin' awesome. I'm not voting this year. This is the first time in 8 elections (all for which I've been eligible) that I'm even considering not voting.
This cycle has just kicked my teeth in. I think, frankly, seeing the horrible Betsy Hammond pieces on M48 were what did it for me. That and the constant phone calls and TV ads (is this a presidential cycle, or what?).
I'll probably suck it up and vote on a few things this afternoon, but as it sits right now? I don't wanna.
Everything and everyone I'm voting for are going down, or are going to be so well supported that my additional yea or nay simply won't matter.
I know. I probably will. Civic duty and all. I've never NOT voted, but I've never not WANTed to vote. And this year, it feels like cleaning out the gutters or something - a dirty, thankless task that I really am trying to avoid but know I must do.
As my Mom always said, "Woe is you - now go do it."
I'm a traditionalist and consciously choose to at least drop off my ballot on the official voting day. I did so this morning and paid for that decision. It took me 30 minutes just to get from Milwaukie and Powell to the Multco voting headquarters on 11th between Morrison and Belmont.
My one whine: I distinctly remember volunteers grabbing ballots from both sides of 11th ave in the past. This time I was not allowed to drop off my ballot from the right/west lane and was forced by the Sheriff's deputy to circle back around again to drop off the ballots into one of two mailbox-like bins. On an already bad commuter traffic morning, the county really made traffic worse. Why?
I never understand the misguided 'stand' people make by not voting. Lazy protest...
I never served in the armed services, I didn't help pen the constitution, I didn't participate in civil rights marches.... but I honor all of it by voting each and every election, even if I'm not 'jazzed' about my choices.
I've heard a lot of people lately say they're not going to vote because they're tired of the calls, ads and fliers. That absurd logic is a rash on our democracy. Get over it, it happens every November. Get a cell phone and get rid of your land-line... whatever. Just suck it up.
I don't know where else to ask this. Anyone in Buckman? Is there a power outage? I'm at work and both my web and mail servers at home havebecome inaccessible, and I have no way to tell from here if it's just that my DSL has vanished for no reason, or if there's a power outage in the neighborhood. I live at SE 15th and Belmont.

Whether you vote or not, a visit to The Oregonion (Not The Oregonian) will provide some welcome comic relief.
