Yes, the better team won. But it should have been the Sea Hawks.
I guess though there is always next year. Maybe during the off season, the Hawks can beef up on the places they lack.
Then next year we can try it again. At least we will not have to worry about "the bus" being on the roster next years for the Steelers.

Well, the better coach won; I'm not convinced the better team won. Cowher would have screamed bloody murder in the locker room if his team ended the first half like the 'Hawks and he would be damn sure his team would not have blown 75 seconds with the game on the line 40 yrds from the end zone.
The calls by the refs were very suspect; they should never influence the game on iffy calls. The chop-block call on Hasselbach when he saved a potential touchdown after the interception was such unbelievable crap.
I'm happy the Steelers gave Cowher a title and it is a rich reward for an owner who has stuck by his coach in an era when most other teams go through coaches like 3 year olds go through candy.
But I disagree that Seattle should be denied a title just to spite one guy.

The holding call that brought back the play that took Seattle down to the Pittsburgh 1, down 3 or 4 points, was also mysterious in the extreme. As Big Madden himself said, "I don't see holding."
It reminded me a little of the Portland Development Commission's handling of the Burnside Bridgehead project.

Pardon me for pointing out the reality of sports: The winner of any Super Bowl is the "best team" every time.
Game LOSERS are only winners in their own minds.
I speak from hard experience, being a fan of the New York Knicks, the Denver Broncos, the New York Mets, and the OHSU Tongue Depressors.

More importantly, now we just have to get through the Olympics and it's baseball time.

The only call the refs blew was the chop block call on Hasselbeck after the Taylor INT. I thought Matt was just making the tackle, and they toss the hankie.
Madden is a blind idiot if he didn't see holding. Dude had his arm all the way around Haggans' neck. From *behind* him.

The replays they showed on ABC immediately after the penalty was called showed no such action. Maybe they screwed up the video and were showing the wrong play?
Posted by Jack Bog | February 6, 2006 12:05 AM
Or perhaps the referee called the wrong player's number?
Posted by Jack Bog | February 6, 2006 12:41 AM
Holy goodness, I keep having to pinch myself! Wooooo Steelers!
Posted by Sarah | February 6, 2006 4:17 AM
Didn't care for the chop-block call, and didn't quite see the holding call, but both weren't totally fictional, either. The TD, I think, was right, and the offensive pass interference also.
I'll admit a pro-ref bias, but still, this Seahawk whining is embarrassing.

What a stinker of a game!
Steelers QB has a rating of, what, 22.5? Hasselback wasn't much better. Both teams AND the officiating stunk.
And the national anthem was nothing short of hideous.
What a dissapointment. I hate the two week build-up - I think they need to play the week after the conference championships.
Posted by Rob Kremer | February 6, 2006 7:51 AM
Two weeks to prepare, and the Seahawks apparently never practiced their two-minute drill. And for that matter, how do you throw to Jeremy Stevens on the last play of the game. How many drive-killing drops does it take to get benched?
If the Seahawks want to blame someone for that loss they need only look in the mirror. Okay, maybe they need to look in the mirror with a referee standing slightly off to their side, because there were a number of tough calls. By the end of the game I half-expected to see the refs throwing "terrible towels" in lieu of flags.

If you’re upset by the refs in the Super Bowl, think back to the Indy game where an obvious Pittsburgh interception by Troy Polamalu was overturned. The NFL later apologized for the ridiculously bad call. Remember what came next? The Bettis fumble and the season-saving tackle by Ben Roethlisberger. So the bad call could have changed the game but the Steelers didn’t let it. The young Seahawks didn’t handle adversity in the same way. Still, have faith. After they lost to Green Bay in the playoffs in overtime, they came back, and they might do it here as well. And I bet if they do Stevens will keep a lid on it going into the big game.

Not to mention D-Jack not being able to keep his feet in bounds. I mean, come on. You're a professional receiver. twice in a row he caught balls with one or two feet out when he likely could have made the catches in. He didn't appear to make an effort to drag, like he didn't know he was in the paint.
I agree with Rob. Both teams played shoddily. And the Seahawks end-of half and end-of-game management was horrid. Like, horrid.

Coffee, why worry about the Bus being there when he didn't do anything this evening?
The Bus gained 43 yards, which ain't chopped liver. He was never the show this year, but it was fitting that he was a class act: he went in, did what they asked him to do, and made a decent contribution. He deserved to be honored, and he certainly deserves to proudly wear the ring.
