OK, OK, I hear you!

This is going to make me sound like a sap to some of you, but it's in me and I've got to let it out.

Somebody up there is definitely trying to tell me something.

In the last four years, I have had four life-altering experiences. I mean, events that have whomped me upside the head, made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, and made me pay closer attention to, as Prince once put it, "this thing called 'life.'"

Before '99, there had never been anything like this. Since then, four of them.

And two in '03 alone.

Am I imagining things? Am I just too susceptible to irrational thoughts? Just another crazy person hearing voices in the head?

Maybe. But like any self-respecting guy from Down Neck Newark, I've got to go with my gut. I understand, on a visceral level, that a message is being sent my way.

But exactly what the sender of this message is trying to say is not obvious. I suspect I'm going to have to do a lot of reflecting before I can figure it out.

And then comes deciding how to respond.

Doesn't sound sappy at all to me.

I understand completely. :)

just being human, that's all.

As I recall, that's why all your students like you so much, and why you keep getting that nifty little award that says we think you're pretty hip.

Yup, being human sometimes is funny. Some of us just require alot more of those message hits before we get the message. Count yourself lucky that you recognize the situation.

If it's "voice" singular, I think you're in good shape. But if it's "voices" plural, you may be in trouble.

Reading your Tuesday posting, the message in your decidedly liberal head should be saying "Let Al Sharpton move next door, and let Teddy Kennedy figure out how much I should pay in taxes."

Ooooh, you got a point there, bro.

Well, are you going to tell us what exactly these life-changing experiences are? Enquiring minds want to know...

Gordo: All four of 'em are too personal to talk about in any meaningful detail on the internet. Maybe years from now, but right now they're still too big and too new.
